Strings

The string program emphasizes the complete artistic, professional and personal development of the musician, addressing not only technical skills but also nurturing creativity through exposure to technology and encouraging the business savvy required to market and manage one's career.

Students hone their skills in various major ensembles and chamber groups as they learn from a world-class faculty, many of which are members of the Pittsburgh Symphony. Our applied instructors work to customize the curriculum to match the individual needs of each student and are committed to preparing every musician to be successful in the highly competitive field of stringed instruments.

Some success stories of the School of Music string department include students winning positions in the Los Angeles, Houston, Portland, Detroit, Naples, Syracuse, and Pittsburgh Symphonies. Also, our string alumni include teachers throughout the country in the public schools, recording technicians in major studios, professors at major universities, and studio artists in Nashville and Los Angeles.
